ERIE, Pa. -- After dropping the first two sets to Kenyon, the Fredonia State volleyball team came roaring back, taking the next three sets in a 3-2 victory. The Devils dropped the nightcap against Alfred at the Penn State Behrend Invitational.
Against Kenyon,
Kylie O'Brien led the way with 16 kills.
Erin Callahan added 10 kills, three aces and two blocks.
Maeve Musielak was feeling at the service line to the tune of nine aces.
Molly Cassidy had 19 assists and
Olivia Boswell added 17.
Kailea Sullivan and
Sasha Zayatz both had 11 digs. The Devils won 21-25, 13-25, 25-11, 25-17, and 15-10.
"Gutsy reverse sweep in our opening match," said head coach
Geoff Braun. "We showed a lot of resiliency."
In the second match, Alfred won 3-1 with set scores of 25-20, 23-25, 25-22, and 25-18.
"They are the defending Empire 8 champs. We did some good things but ultimately didn't defend their pins well enough," said Braun.
O'Brien added 15 kills and Callahan nine. Cassidy had 19 assists and Boswell had 16. Sullivan led the defense with 12 digs.
The Devils take on Geneva and Thiel tomorrow, beginning at 10 a.m.
