PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -- Despite a strong second half charge that netted the lone goal of the match for the Devils, the Fredonia State men's soccer team fell to the Plattsburgh State Cardinals in the opening of conference play by a final score of 2-1.Â
The Cardinals offense took control of the game early with a goal at the 29 minute mark off the foot of John Hayes to take the early lead. The Cardinals wasted little time striking four minutes later with Xavier Kamba finding Trista Laundree to push the Plattsburgh State lead to two.Â
In the second half, Frederick Butler was able to net his second goal of the season for the Devils off an assist from
Brian Taylor, Taylor's second assist of the season to draw within one. Unfortunately, the comeback fell short for the Devils.
In goal for the Devils was Junior Thomas McDonald who finished the game with three saves. Teddy Healy was credited with two saves for the Cardinals as well. Plattsburgh remains undefeated on the season improving to 6-0-2.
With this loss, the Devils drop to 4-4-2 and 0-1 in SUNYAC competition and will return to the pitch when they will travel to Pitt-Bradford for a non conference match up on Wednesday, September 25 at 7:00 p.m.Â
