FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's soccer team nearly completed a comeback against the Alleghany College Gators, but ran out of time for a final score of 5-3.
The Gators came out strong in the first half when they took an early 1-0 lead on an Emma Miller goal in the fifth minute. Miller would go on to score the next Gator goal in the 19th minute on a low shot assisted by Delaney David.
In the final minute of the first half Fredonia State would get on the board thanks to
Claire McManus's beautiful goal that snuck past the Gator goalkeeper. It was a 2-1 game at the break.
Coming into the second half the Miller tallied her third goal of the afternoon in the 47th minute. Miller added an assist on Madeline Schneider's goal in the 65th minute as the Gators took a 4-1 lead.
From there, the Blue Devils stepped up their play. It started thanks to
Gabby Irwin, who scored the next Blue Devil goal with a top shelf goal right over the hands of the Gator goaltender in the 74th minute.
Five minutes later
Annie Gondek found the back of the net for the Devils. Gondek's goal came off of a multi rebound attempt that found the back of the net to cut the lead to 4-3. Both Gondek's and McManus's goals would be their first collegiate goals.
In the closing minutes Miller, would seal the deal for the Gators with her fourth goal of the game, coming in the 89th minute. David had her second assist of the afternoon.
Fredonia State drops to 4-2. They are back in action Tuesday at Penn State Behrend with a start time slated for 7 p.m.
