ERIE, Pa. -- The Fredonia State women's soccer team dropped its season opener to a tough John Carroll team, 2-0, at the Penn State Behrend Classic on Saturday.
JCU scored in the 39th minute. The score would remain the same until the final four minutes when they tacked on an insurance goal.
Abby Szymkowiak had a busy night in goal, making 11 saves for Fredonia State. John Carroll held a 13-2 advantage in shots on goal.

Bronwyn Madden accounted for the two Blue Devil shots.
Fredonia State will compete against Franciscan College Sunday at 5 p.m. in the second day of th Classic.
