Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Two second-half goals power Devils to win

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- Chance LaCroix tied the game 1-all in the 67th minute, and Vinnie DiBello scored the game winner in the 83rd minute as the Devils claimed a 2-1 win over Elmira College in the second day of the Buffalo State Classic.

Elmira scored the lone goal of the first half, coming on a penalty kick. It was the third PK the Devils surrendered in two games. Jose Navea Corporan connected for the Soaring Eagles.

LaCroix would get the equalizer with help from Brian Taylor to tie the game 1-1.

A pair of freshmen -- DiBello and Ryan Ameis -- would team up for the game winner with just over seven minutes left to play.

Thomas McDonald made the start in goal, making three saves and was charged with just one goal-against. Elmira's Asher Ellis made four saves.

Elmira held a 12-9 edge in shots, but the Devils had a 6-4 advantage in shots on goal. Elmira had five corner kicks compared to the Devils' four.

"The boys were super resilient today," said head coach P.J. Gondek. "We gave up another penalty kick... we looked a little sluggish, but the goal by LaCroix was huge. We really came on, hitting the post a couple times... and we were knocking on the door. Vinnie DiBello found a way to flick it over the goalkeeer's head."

Gondek relied heavily on his four defensive stalwarts over the weekend. "The back four played 180 minutes in two days," said Gondek. "Huddy Kwiatkowski, Kye Castelluccio, Ryan Ameis, and Liam Walsh. I don't know how they had enough energy to do that. We kept believing in ourselves."

The Devils will play host to Chatham College on Tuesday in the home opener for the Blue Devils.
