FREDONIA, N.Y. – Fredonia State Tennis is set to kick off competition with a slate of six home games this season. Head Coach Jane Gens returns the majority of the 2023-2024 team to the court with senior
Bernadette Gens and sophomore
Lucy Prevet leading the way for the Devils.
"We are so much stronger than last year", noted Gens "Our team has much more depth than we have had in prior seasons." Gens is excited to open the season at home for the Devils adding in "The schedule is always tight for tennis, I love the fact that we are home a lot more season, that allows us a good chance to start the season off right."
Fredonia State is returning seven players from last year's squad. Among the seven are
Bernadette Gens who managed to earn two victories on the year against very good competition, and
Lucy Prevet who was named as a SUNYAC Second Team singles honoree.
In addition, Coach Gens will seek contributions from sophomores Gabby Farr and junior Sophie Olson in the number three and four spots. "Gabby has upped her game this fall by adding new shots such as drops and elevating the ball to score, and Sophie has been playing some excellent tennis as well."
Seniors TK Parker and
Sierra Allen will look to continue their improvement from last season as well for the Devils. Gens has also added freshmen
Claire LeFevre and Mykayla Rodriquez, and junior
Adeliz Gottinger to the mix to round out the roster.
Fredonia State Tennis will start their season off this Saturday, August 31 at home when they host the visiting Golden Eagles of SUNY Brockport at 1:00 PM at the Steele Hall Tennis Courts.
