Saxons sweep Devils

ALFRED, N.Y. -- In the team's final tuneup for before the SUNYAC Tournament, the Fredonia State softball team fell to Alfred University, 5-2 and 7-0, on Monday.

Game 1
The Devils were shut out through the first five innings, and trailed 5-0. In the sixth, they would load the bases with nobody out. After a forceout at home, an infield error plated the first run as Courtney Peregosky was credited with an RBI. The Devils would score the second on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Mia Woolums.

Vanessa Galbraith spun a complete game, going six innings and scattering nine hits. She walked none and struck out six, with three of the runs being earned.

Madison Lowe, Alyssa Santiago, and Jordan Kanick each had two hits apiece. Santiago and Lowe both doubled.

Game 2
Despite outhitting the Saxons, 10-9, the Devils were unable to scratch across a run. Madison Devore, Allie Wandell, and Kanick all had two hits apiece. The Devils did not have an extra-base hit.

A pair of freshmen got the call in the circle. Kanick started and went 3 1/3 innings, giving up four runs and striking out three. Lowe finished the game with 2 2/3 innings pitched, surrendering three runs, one earned, and striking out a pair.

Next up for the Devils is the SUNYAC Tournament hosted in New Paltz beginning on Thursday. Fredonia State enters as the No. 5 seed and will take on Cortland in the opening game of the double-elimination tournament.
