NEW PALTZ, N.Y. -- After falling to Cortland in the opening game of the SUNYAC Tournament, the Devils could not beat Buffalo State for a third time this season, dropping an 8-1 game to the Bengals. The loss ends the season for the Blue Devils.
GAME 2: Buff State 8, Fredonia State 1
After a 1-2-3 inning by starting pitcher
Emily Chelius, the Blue Devils would score first in the bottom of the first inning.
Allie Wandell singled and stole second. After a groundout moved Wandell to third, Chelius ripped an RBI single to make it a 1-0 game. An error and a walk loaded the bases. Buffalo State would then make a pitching change, bringing in Izzy Pezdek. She would strike out the next two batters to end the threat.
Unfortunately, the Devils would not score again.
The Bengals got their bats rolling in the second inning, scoring six times and chasing Chelius from the game.
Vanessa Galbraith would enter in relief and give up a double, scoring the sixth run. Galbraith would pitch 3 1/3 innings, giving up two hits and no runs.
The Bengals would tack on a run in the sixth and the seventh innings, both runs coming against
Jordan Kanick, the third Blue Devil pitcher of the day. Kanick gave up two runs in two innings.
Chelius led the hitters, going 2-3 with an RBI. Buffalo State out-hit the Devils, 12-6.
GAME 1: Cortland 7, Fredonia State 1
In the opening game of the SUNYAC Tournament, the Cortland Red Dragons plated five runs in the bottom of the first inning and would go on to claim a 7-1 win.
Starting pitcher
Emily Chelius was not able to work out of the inning, surrendering the five runs.
Madison Lowe would come in and get the next three batters to end the threat. Lowe pitched a scoreless second and third inning, as well.
Lowe gave up two runs in the bottom of the fourth while recording one out as Cortland extended its lead to 7-0.
Jordan Kanick came on in relief, and struck out the next two batters to end that inning.
Kanick pitched a scoreless fifth and sixth, finishing with 2 2/3 innings pitched, striking out four and not allowing a hit.
The Fredonia State offense broke through in the sixth.
Madison Devore singled, and
Allie Wandell tripled to make it 7-1.
The Devils finished the game with four hits. Kanick and Santiago also had singles.
Fredonia State ends its season with a 15-25 ledger.
