NEW PALTZ, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State softball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to the New Paltz Hawks, who extended their SUNYAC mark to 14-0. The Devils, still holding an inside edge on a post-season berth, fall to 6-10 and remain in the sixth-and-final playoff spot.
New Paltz took Game 1 by a 5-0 count, and Game 2, with 3-0 score.
Game 1
The Devils got a solid complete-game effort from
Emily Chelius, who went all six innings, giving up six hits, striking out four, and surrendering four earned runs.
The offense was held to two hits, singles by
Allie Wandell and
Kayla Jo Lynn.
New Paltz scored three runs in the third inning, and two in the fifth to earn the win. Lindsay Roman spun the shutout, giving up two hits, striking out two, and walking none.
Game 2
The Devils got another solid pitching effort in the second game, as
Vanessa Galbraith went the distance, giving up seven hits, striking out four, and walking none.
Again, the Devils got two hits, this time from Wandell and
Madison Devore. Sydney Waldon earned the win for New Paltz, striking out 13 and walking none.
The Devils take on Nazareth on Wednesday for the team's final home contest. SUNYAC play wraps up next weekend with a double-dip at Buffalo State on Saturday.
