Split puts Devils in playoff driver's seat

BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- After falling 1-0 in extra innings in Game 1, the Blue offense exploded for 14 runs and took Game 2 by a 14-5 score. Emily Chelius was the tough-luck loser in the opener, striking out 10 before allowing a run with two out in the bottom of the eighth. She homered in Game 2 to pace the offense.

Fredonia State is now 6-6 in the SUNYAC, putting them in the sixth and final playoff spot right now. They hold the tiebreaker over the four teams trailing them, with Brockport right behind them in seventh at 2-6. They are tied with Oneonta (6-4) and Geneseo (6-2) in the win column.

Game 1
Chelius did all she could, but was matched pitch-for-pitch by Brockport's Kendall Phillips. Chelius scattered four hits and whiffed 10, while Phillips allowed four hits and struck out six.

Brockport's Emma DeJesus singled home Olivia Simone for the game winner.

Allie Wandell had two hits and two stolen bases for the Devils.

Game 2
Down 2-1 after the first inning, the Devils scored 10 unanswered runs in the second and third innings to cruise to the victory.

Megan Guidry and Wandell drove in three apiece, and Chelius plated two runs. Avery Hill added a double.

Vanessa Galbraith took the win, going 3 2/3 innings, giving up five runs. Madison Lowe finished the game with 1 2/3 innings of scoreless pitching.

Brockport moves to 8-18. The Golden Eagles were paced by Kellie Gentile with three hits.

The Devils, 11-17 overall, are off to New Paltz and Oneonta this weekend.
