BROCKPORT, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State baseball team fell 12-2 in the final game of a three-game set at Brockport on Monday morning. The game was moved to a 10 a.m. start in an effort to beat the weather.
The Blue Devils held a 2-1 lead until the bottom of the seventh when Brockport exploded for seven runs. They would add three more in the seventh, and one more in the eighth.
Offensively, tied 1-1 in the top of the second inning,
Alex Gannon cracked his third homerun of the season to put the Devils up, 2-1. After starting pitcher
Morgan Zientara went two innings and gave up one run,
Joe Tobia followed that with three scoreless innings, taking the Devils through five, leading 2-1.
Brockport (13-4 / 3-0 SUNYAC) then touched up Nate O'Brochta for seven runs -- only three earned -- in 2/3 of an inning.
Owen Ludwig and Nick Barberio finished out the game.
Garrett Stuckey went 1-2 with two walks, and Christain Pagano was 1-3 with a walk and an RBI.
Fredonia State falls to 5-11 overall and 1-5 in the SUNYAC. The Devils' home opener v. Alfred U. on Wednesday has been postponed. They are scheduled for the SUNYAC home opener this weekend vs. Oneonta.
