Sydney Buchko netted a hat trick in the losing effort.
New Paltz attacker Lexi Atwater set the pace for the contest as she netted the first goal of the game at the 13:10 mark of the opening quater. Devils midfielder Buchko answered back with a goal to tie the game back up at 1-1 Both teams exchanged goals to keep the score tied with just over three minutes left in the first quater. The Hawks worked fast to push their lead to two with goals from
Atwater and Shaw.
The Hawks outscored the Devils (5-1) in the second period to take a 9-4-halftime lead. Buchko tallied the second quarter score for the Devils.
Coming out of the intermission,
Noelle Mendez scored the only goal for the Devils in the second half as the Hawks scored the final nine goals of the game, boosting the final score to 18-5.
New Paltz out shot the Devils 33-10 and four more draw controls 15-11. Mendez led the Devils in draw controls with four while Buchko had a team high three groundballs.
Ashleigh Manns was charged with the loss in 54:59 of action between the posts while her counterpart Gabriella Tommaso earned the win playing all 60 minutes.
The Fredonia State women's lacrosse team looks to get back on track on Wednesday, April 10, when they welcome the Oswego State Lakers for a 3:00 p.m. home contest.
