Devils stumble in SUNYAC opener

Geneseo, N.Y. -- The Geneseo Knights handed Fredonia State two conference losses, defeating the Devils, 11-3, in five innings in game one and losing 10-5 in game two on Sunday afternoon. Emily Chelius was tabbed with loss in the first game. In the second game, Vannessa Galbraith was charged with the loss. 

Game one 
Geneseo held a 4-0 lead after the first inning but the Devils responded at the top of third inning and with runners on third and second, Allie Wandell singled to center field to drive in two runs for the Devils. The Knights scored again at the the bottom of the third off of a single from  Audrey Minton to center field to bring in Brooke Fraas to go up 5-2.

Geneseo rattled of six runs in the bottom of the fourth to maintain a comfortable 11-2 lead. With two outs at the top of the fifth, Wandell singled and after a single from Emily Chelius, right fielder Alyssa Santiago singled to right field to allow Wandell to score. Unfortunately, the Devils were unable to score any more runs as the Knights secured the 11-3 victory.

Wandell lead the Devils in game 1 going 2-3 with two RBI's and one run with Santiago finishing 1-3 with one RBI. 

Game two
In game two, the Knights jumped ahead of the Devils early on scoring four runs in the bottom of the first. The Devils found a rhythm in the third and with runners on third and second freshmen Jordan Kanick laced a single to drive in the first run for the Devils. With two outs, catcher Avery Hill doubled to bring in two more runs to draw within one run of Geneseo.

This was as close as the Devils got as the Knights used four hits and brought in four runs to go up 10-3. Fredonia State managed to score two more runs off of four singles but the Devils fell in game two 10-5 in seven innings. 

Hill finished the game going 1-3 with 2 RBI's with Chelius going 1-1 with 2 RBI's as well. 

The Devils will remain on the road as they travel to Rochester to play the University of Rochester in a non conference double header scheduled for Tuesday, April 9th with first pitch at 3:00 p.m.
