BROCKPORT, N.Y. --
Tyler Curtis would go 3-for-3 in the Game 1, but the Fredonia State baseball team would fall to Brockport 12-2. The Devils' luck would not improve for Game 2, as they fell 11-2.
Kyle Tedford led the Devils with two hits, including his second homerun of the season.
Game 1
Brockport scratched a run across the plate off starting pitcher
Connor Burkestone in the first inning. They would add five more tallies in the second to chase the freshman hurler from the game after giving up six runs, just two earned.
The Devils would get on the board with a run in the fourth and fifth innings. Curtis doubled to lead off the inning and would eventually score on a base hit by
Alex Gannon.
The next inning, three straight one-out singles from
Christian Pagano,
Tucker Schwab, and Curtis would account for the second run, making it 6-2 in favor of Brockport.
Derrick Walters, who came on in relief of Burkestone, would throw 2 1/3 scoreless before being touched up for four runs in the bottom of the fifth.
Christian Brown threw the final 1 1/3 innings, surrendering two runs.
In addition to his three hits, Curtis reached base a fourth time on a hit by pitch. Pagano would go 2-4.
Game 2
Brockport scored three times in both the first and second innings, and once in the third to jump out to a 7-0 lead.
Fredonia State got on the board when Tedford led off the fourth inning with a homer to left field.
In the sixth, a single by Curtis moved Pagano to third, and he would score on a wild throw on the same play.
The Devils would use four pitchers for the game, with starting pitcher
Nick Syposs taking the loss after two innings of work.
Michael Byrns finished the game with 2 2/3 scoreless innings.
Brockport improves to 12-4 and 2-0 in the SUNYAC.
The Devils (5-10/1-4 SUNYAC) are scheduled for a 2 p.m. start in Brockport on Tuesday to wrap up the series.
