Game Recap: Softball |

Kanick comes through in Game 1 of split

CLERMONT, Fla. -- Freshman Jordan Kanick came up big for the Fredonia State softball team in Game 1 of a double header. In a 4-3 win over Rutgers-Camden, she drove in the wining run in the top of the seventh inning, then finished the game in the circle to earn the save. In Game 2, the Devils would lose to North Central College, 11-0.

Game 1
Emily Chelius pitched the first five-plus innings for Fredonia State, and came away with a no decision. She allowed three runs -- two earned -- and struck out three without walking a batter.

Tied 3-3, Chelius allowed a leadoff hit to start the sixth. She was relieved by Vanessa Galbraith who got a strikeout and induced a double play. Galbraith was credited with the win.

Kanick would finish the game, but make it interesting. She walked three, but used a caught stealing and a strikeout to avoid any damage.

Offensively, Allie Wandell went 2-3 with a triple and a stolen base. Her triple led off the seventh and she would come around on Kanick's hit for the deciding run.

Alyssa Santiago opened the scoring with an RBI double in the first, plating Chelius.

The Devils went up 2-0 in the fourth, thanks to a pair of errors. Kayla Lynn would score on a first-and-third play with a steal of home.

After three scoreless innings, Chelius allowed a run in the fourth and two in the fifth to tie the game at 3-all before the Devils would claim the late win.

Avery Hill added a pair of hits for Fredonia State.

Game 2
The North Central pitchers combined to hold the Devils to just one hit, coming off the bat of Megan Guidry. After a scoreless first, North Central put up six runs in the second to chase starting pitcher Mack Celauro

Madison Lowe and Galbraith came on to pitch two innings apiece. Lowe allowed five runs -- two earned -- on five hits. Galbraith allowed two runs -- one earned -- on two hits.

North Central (9-2) amassed 13 hits in the five-inning affair.

The Devils (3-7) wrap up their Spring Trip on Saturday.
