KISSIMMEE, Fla. --  Senior Vanessa Galbraith tossed the first no-hitter of her career, as the Fredonia State softball program produced a doubleheader sweep over Ohio Northern and Rutgers Newark on Friday afternoon, recording an 5-4 win in Game 1 before delivering a 5-0 victory in Game 2. "What a great way to end the trip", noted head coach Tony Ciccarello "I am happy for the team and I am happy for Vanessa and the way we were able to end the week." 

Game 1 vs Ohio Northern 

In Game 1, the Devils feel behind 2-0 in the top of the second off a RBI single with the bases loaded and a RBI off a ground out to the short stop from Ashley Lenser. Fredonia State countered in the bottom of the second with a RBI single from Hannah Mezzoprete to draw within one run. 

Following a one run frame at the bottom of the third, the Polar Bears grabbed a 4-2 advantage in the top of the fifth. The Devils erupted in the bottom of the sixth with three runs scored off a RBI single from Alyssa Santiago and a two RBI single from Courtney Peregosky to take the five to four lead. 

With runners on first and second, pitcher Emily Chelius forced a fly out to third base to record the final out of the game. Chelius pitched all seven innings and recorded three strikeouts, scattering ten hits and surrendered four runs. 

Game 2 vs Rutgers-Newark

In Game 2, Galbraith collected her no-hitter and tallied three strikeouts in 7.0 innings (75 pitches) of work to improve to 3-3 on the season. She faced 24 batters in the contest and forced 13 fly balls.

The Devils scored first with the bases loaded after Erin Cunningham was hit by a pitch to go up one to nothing in the top of the first. Jordan Kanick singled to bring in another Devils run. 

At the top of the sixth with one out, Courtney Peregosky would single off a bunt and advance to second off of a single from Madison Devore. The next at bat Madison Lowe doubled to bring in both runners and push the score to four to zero. Allysa Santiago also had a RBI single before the inning ended. 

Santiago finished 1-for-3 with two runs scored and two RBIs, while Cunningham and Kanick went 1-for-3 as well.

The last no hitter thrown for Devils was by Kelsey Gannett who pitched a no-hitter in a 3-0 victory over Framingham State back in 2014

With the sweep, Fredonia State improves to 5-7 on the season and returns to action on Saturday, April 2, for a doubleheader against Alfred University at Harrington field with the first pitch scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
