CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Fredonia State women's softball team opened up their 2024 Spring trip with games against Russel Sage and Trinity (Conn) on Saturday. The Devils would drop game one to Sage by a final score of three to zero and in extra innings they would defeat Trinity five to four.
Game 1
Sage would strike first with Allison Kenyon scoring for the Gators off of a triple from Clana Santana to right field. Emma Heatquist would lace a double to drive in another run for Sage to go up two. A sac fly from Santana would give Sage another run as the Gators would eventually go on to win.Â
Madison Devore would go 2-4 on the game for the Devils with
Allie Wandell finishing 2-3 and
Madison Esmond going 2-3 as well.Â
Pitcher
Emily Chelius would pitch six innings earning six strikeouts.Â
Game 2
The Devils would score their first run of the season off of wild pitch withÂ
Madison Lowe scoring from third in the second inning.Â
Hannah Mezzoprete would homer at the top of the fourth with a deep shot to center field to put the Devils up two.Â
Trinity would respond with four runs in the fifth with Erin steed hitting a double and driving in two runs. A single from Kennedy Rogers and a error from the Devils would put Trinity up two.Â
Fredonia State would open the seventh inning with a big double fromÂ
Mia Woolums and after two errors from Trinity, the Devils would go into extra innings. In extras,Â
Mack Celauro would score from second base to put the Devils up five to four. Wandell would put the game on ice with a diving tag at second to give the Devils the victory in game two.Â
Celauro would receive the win pitching for the Devils as she finished the night with 3.2 IP, two strike outs and no errors.Â
The Devils return to action for day two with games scheduled against Augsburg University at 9:00 a.m. and Springfield at 11:15 a.m. on Sunday.Â
