KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- The Fredonia State Blue Devils softball team defeated Farmingdale State in extra innings by score of four to three in game one on Monday. In the second game, the Devils lost by a final score of eight to one.Â
Game 1 vs. Farmingdale State
Farmingdale maintained a two to nothing lead going into the top of the fourth when a double from
Alyssa Santiago and an Alaina Houge single put the Devils on the scoreboard trailing only two to one.Â
Fredonia State captured the lead in the fifth inning after
Madison Lowe doubled, driving in another run; and a single off of an
Allie Wandell bunt brought another score in.Â
At the bottom of the seventh, Jenna Giliberti doubled, stole third base and scored off a sacrifice bunt to force extra innings.Â
In the extras, with a runner on second,
Madison Devore hit a double to bring in a runner to put the Devils in the lead. This run eventually won the game four to three.Â
Emily Chelius pitched an effective game on the mound, going all eight innings, scattering seven hits and giving up three earned runs while striking out nine.
Game 2 vs. Hope
The Devils dropped the second game of the afternoon, 8-1. The Devils scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth.
Madison Devore led off the inning with a single.
Allie Wandell would have a sacrifice bunt to move Devore to second. After a strikeout,
Alyssa Santiago singled to bring in the run.Â
Vanessa Galbraith took the loss on the mound, going three innings.Â
The Devils are off on Tuesday, then take on Skidmore College and the University of Wisconsin-Platteville on Wednesday beginning at 10:30 a.m.
