MYRTLE BEACH S.C. -- The Fredonia State baseball team put up seven runs, but could not hold back Olivet, dropping a 13-7 game on Friday.
Christian Pagano finished the game going 3-4 with three stolen bases.
The Devils were held to six hits, but were the recipients of nine free passes and swiped seven bases.
Greg Kirk hit a three-run homerun in the top of the first for Olivet, and would finish the day with seven RBI.
The Devils scored their first two runs unconventionally.
Garrett Stuckey scored on a balk in the first inning, and
Tyler Curtis stole home in the fourth. An error aided a second run in the fourth, at which point the Devils trailed 4-3.
Olivet scored once in the top of the fifth off starter
Joe Tobia, and three times in the the sixth of reliever
Derrick Walters for an 8-3 lead.
Fredonia State battled back in the bottom of the seventh. Doubles by Pagano and
Matt Wojcik accounted for two runs. Pagano would also score on a wild pitch.
With Olivet leading 8-6, two outs and the bases loaded in the eighth, an infield error followed by a Grand Slam led to five quick unearned runs and put the game away.
Tobia took the loss, going five innings, giving up four earned and striking out three without walking a batter.
Olivet improves to 5-8, while the Devils drop to 4-5.
Fredonia State wraps up it trip Saturday vs. St. Joe's with a 9 a.m.contest.
