FREDONIA, N.Y. -- No. 24 ranked John Carroll came to town Saturday afternoon, and the Fredonia State women's basketball team hung around for a while before falling 78-57. Ten different Blue Devils got in the scoring column, led by freshman
Ashley Kalvitis with nine.
Kyla Smith added eight, and
Allie Wandell had nine rebounds.
JCU jumped out to an early 8-0 lead, but the Devils would tie the game at 12 apiece following a three pointer by
Alexys Neckers late in the first quarter. From there, John Carroll would go on a 15-0 run and take control of the game. At the half, they led 39-17.
Fredonia State would outscore them 40-39 in the second half.
The visitors hit 12 of 30 three pointers, while Fredonia State went 3 of 18. Both teams shot 39 percent from the floor. John Carroll won the rebound battle, 39-31, including 18 offensive rebounds leading to 22 second-chance points. They improve to 5-0.
The Devils (3-2) are off until Dec. 6-7 when they open SUNYAC play vs. New Paltz, then Oneonta.
