POTSDAM, NY -- Gabrielle Irwin and
Jordan Niccola both scored as the Fredonia State women's soccer team defeated the Potsdam Bears, 2-0, on Saturday. Fredonia State improves to 8-7 overall and 3-4 in conference play.
Sophomore goaltender
Abby Szymkowiak did not allow goal and recorded three saves in the match. The Devils tied the Bears in shots at 12 apiece but maintained a 6-3 advantage in shots on goal.
Irwin scored her seventh goal of the season just 2:32 into the match off of the assist from
Katie Sellers. Niccola found the back of the net for the second time this season to make it a 2-0 game in the 10th minute of play.
Potsdam's goaltender Megan Fry finished the match with three saves as the Bears move to 3-12 overall and 1-6 in SUNYAC play.
The Devils next return home to University Stadium in a SUNYAC match up against Morrisville on Wednesday, October, 23rd at 3:00 p.m.
