FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State women's basketball team fell to the visiting New Paltz Hawks, 78-70, on Friday.
Grace Alexander paced the Devils with 24 points and added four steals and four rebounds.
Mary Culeton had 14 points.
The Devils got off to a quick start, and their biggest lead of the contest would come early on as they led 9-2 after three minutes of play. New Paltz then went on an 8-0 run to take its first lead of the game.
There would be two more lead changes before the Hawks found themselves up 19-13 at the end of one quarter.
Following a three pointer by Alexander at 8:37 of the second quarter, the Devils cut the lead to 20-18. Alexander would shoot 5-10 from long range. Unfortunately, they would not get that close again. Halftime saw the Hawks up 48-38.
The Devils kept the lead there after both teams scored 17 points in the third quarter. They would outscore New Paltz 15-13 in the fourth.
New Paltz (9-3, 4-1 SUNYAC) was led by Brainna Fitzgerald with 22 points and 10 rebounds.
The Devils (7-5, 2-3 SUNYAC) have the rest of the weekend off due to the incoming weather. Saturday's game vs. Oneonta has been postponed until further notice.
