Grace Alexander and
Allie Wandell teamed up to score 15 of the Devils' final 17 points as they hung on for a 69-66 victory at Potsdam on Saturday. Alexander led all scorers with 21 points, and Wandell had her second double-double in as many games, finishing with 12 points and 14 rebounds, as well as a team-high six assists.
Mary Culeton added 12 points, seven rebounds, and four assists.
The game was tightly contested the entire way. The largest lead of the game of seven points came early in the second quarter with the Devils up 22-15. Potsdam's biggest lead was only three points, 52-49, early in the fourth quater.
Fredonia State broke out to a 17-13 lead after one quarter, but the Bears would tie the game at 36 at the half. The teams were separated by two points or less the entire third quarter.
For the game, the Devils shot 7 of 9 from the line, compared to 12 of 20 by Potsdam, and the Devils held a 43-37 edge in rebounds.
Both teams shot 41 percent from the field, and the Devils hit six threes compared to four by Potsdam.
Potsdam (5-5 overall / 1-3 SUNYAC) was paced by 20 points and 10 rebounds from Jakia Howard.
The Devils (7-3 / 2-1 SUNYAC) head to Geneseo on Tuesday for their third-straight road conference game.
