FREDONIA, N.Y. --
Allie Wandell and
Grace Alexander combined to score 37 points as the Fredonia State women's basketball team defeated Brockport in a thrilling 58-55 victory on Tuesday. Alexander finished with a game-high 19 points and added six rebounds. Wandell went for 18 and had 13 rebounds for her third double-double of the season.
With the Devils leading by four points, Brockport's Zoe Zutes nailed a three pointer with 10 seconds on the clock to make it a one point game. The Devils turned the ball over on the ensuing inbound pass, but would eventually regain possession and
Caitlin Snyder would draw a foul with 1.1 seconds left. Snyder nailed the first free throw and Brockport was unable to get off a shot at the end.
Early in the game,
Mary Culeton converted a basket to put the Devils up, 6-4, and they would keep that lead the rest of the way.
The Devils led by as many a 10 points on a couple of occasions. Up 50-40, Brockport scored the final seven points of the third quarter to make it a three-point game, 50-47.
Wandell and Alexander opened with a pair of buckets to start the fourth to put the Devils back up seven, but they never expanded the lead any bigger than that through the end of the game.
Brockport (8-9 / 4-6 SUNYAC) had three players in double digits led by Zutes with 17, and Zairea Hannah added 13 with 20 rebounds. Only five players scored for the Golden Eagles.
The Devils (8-8 / 3-6 SUNYAC) travel to Oneonta and New Paltz this weekend.
