BOXSCORE FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State Blue Devils women's soccer team dropped their SUNYAC conference opener to the Geneseo Knights on Wednesday evening. Despite having more shots on goal, the Devils would lose with the final score reading 2-0 in favor of the Knights. "I thought we played well," noted head coach
Chris Case. "The difference really was that Geneseo capitalized on their chances and we did not."
At the start of the game, the Devils would come out aggressively on offense with Fredonia State taking the first four shots of the game in the opening 10 minutes. However, with 10 minutes left in the first half, Geneseo's Juliette Frischmann put a shot off the top cross bar and then followed her shot to put the ball in the back of the net to give the Knights a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, Geneseo would be the beneficiary of a penalty kick with Dana Schoep finding the back of the net to go up 2-0. Fredonia State would continue to put the pressure with two more shots on goal but nothing could connect for the Devils. "Moving forward we just need to tighten a few things up and be more dynamic," Case would add.
Goalkeeper
Dani Rubino would have two saves on the night with
Grace Auer having three shots on goal.
This loss drops Fredonia State to 3-3-1 on the season and 0-1 in conference play. The Devils return to the pitch Saturday, September 23rd on the road at SUNY Cortland with game scheduled to start at 1:00 PM.
