Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Devils suffer first setback of season

GENESEO, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men's soccer team dropped its first SUNYAC contest of the season, a 3-1 loss at Geneseo on Wednesday. Milkias Aregawi accounted for the Blue Devil offense with his first goal of the season.

Geneseo scored in the 19th minute before Aregawi tied things up in the 35th minute. Brian Taylor assisted on the goal. Geneseo quickly regained the lead, scoring 1:59 later to go up 2-1.

Tyler Lewandowski gave the Knights some breathing room with the final score in the 88th minute. Lewandowski also scored the game's first goal and picked up an assist on the second score.

Geneseo outshot the Devils, 14-7, but only 7-5 in shots on goal. Both goaltenders were credited with four saves – Tanner Stutzman for the Blue Devils, and Vincent Maronski for Geneseo.

"Today we did not play well enough defensively to win a SUNYAC game," said head coach P.J. Gondek. "We gifted them their first goal and even after we were able to tie it, we gave them another one that could have been prevented. We will need to figure things out quickly as we have a nationally ranked opponent in Cortland coming to town Saturday."

The Devils suffer their first loss of the season and now stand at 4-1-3. Geneseo improves to 5-2-1.

The Devils play host to Cortland on Saturday. Gametime is slated for 1 p.m. at University Stadium
