FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State softball team dropped a pair of SUNYAC games to Buffalo State on Saturday. They fell 5-3 in Game 1, and 12-0 in six innings in Game 2.
Game 1
The Devils held the early lead in Game 1. A groundout by
Amanda Eastman scored
Hannah Mezzoprete and put the Devils up 1-0 in the bottom of the second inning.
A passed ball allowed the Bengals to tie the game in the top of the fifth. It was short lived, however, when
Avery Hill's go-ahead single put the Devils back on top, 2-1, in the bottom half of the inning.
Unfortunately for the Devils, the Bengals responded with four runs in the top of the sixth.
The Devils would tack on a run in the bottom of the seventh when Mezzoprete's fielder's choice accounted for the final run.
Hill,
Mac Miller, and Chelius each had a pair of hits.
Chelius went 5 2/3 innings, striking out seven and giving up five runs, four earned.
Mack Celauro went the final 1 1/3 innings without giving up a run.
Madison Lucas went the distance for Buff State, striking out seven in seven innings, giving up two earned runs and walking three. Caitlyn Parsons and Jenna Wlotkowski both had two hits for the Bengals.
Game 2
A two-run homer in the top of the first got things going for Buffalo State. They would use that momentum en route to 12 runs on 17 hits. Up 6-0, the Bengals exploded for six runs in the sixth to give the 12-0 final. Kaitlyn Schnitzer went the distance for Buff State, giving up two hits, striking out 11, and walking none.
Madison Esmond and Chelius had the two hits for the Devils.
