FREDONIA, N.Y. -- Fredonia State softball dropped a pair of non-conference games at home to Alfred University. In the first game, the Devils lost a tight game down the stretch by a score of 2-0. In game two, the Devils were defeated by a score of 2-13.
Game One
The Devils struggled throughout the game to find a hit but with a strong pitching performance from
Emily Chelius, Fredonia State would give themselves a chance to win in final innings.
At the bottom of sixth, Hanah Mezzoprete would reach on a fielder choice and would advance to second base off a wild pitch, threatening to score. Unfortunately, the next batter would strike out to end the ending as the Devils would fail to score in the seventh and go on to loose 0-2.
Chelius would turn in a impressive pitching performance, despite the loss as she she would finish the game with seven innings pitched, with just five hits, two runs, one error and four strikeouts.
Game Two
The Saxons would jump the Devils early three runs in the first and four in the second and two in the third to go down 9-0 early. After back to back singles to put runners on first and second
Allie Wandell would lace double down the third base line to drive in the first run of the day for the Devils.
Delacruz would single and advance to second and after a sac bunt by
Amanda Eastman, Delacruz would get to third base. The next batter
Alexis Wulf would ground out with Delacruz coming into score to give the Devils two runs but that would be it as the Saxons would close out the game 13-2.
Wandell would finish the game for the Devils 2-2 with one RBI. Delacruz and Mezzoprete would go 1-1 with one run each.
Next Up
Fredonia State hits theroad this weekend as they return to SUNYAC play. The Devils will next play a doubleheader at Cortland this Friday April 28th with game one starting at 3:00 P.M.
