Plattsburgh N.Y. -- The Fredonia State Blue Devils dropped both games in their doubleheader on Saturday against Plattsburgh. In game one, the Devils fell just short in the final inning of the game as Plattsburgh edged Fredonia 4-3. In the second game, Plattsburgh would win 16-0.
Game 1
Plattsburgh opened the scoring in the first, as Julia Golino tripled to right center field and scored a run as Kristina Maggiacomo singled next. Then at the bottom of the second, Claire Palmer singled out to left center field with bases loaded allowing Plattsburgh to take a 3-0 lead.
Fredonia was able to respond immediately in the top of the third, as
Alexis Wulf hit a triple and scored on the next play due to an error by Plattsburgh.
Allie Wandell hit a double shortly after, putting herself and Madison Edmund in position to tie the game up at three a piece heading into the bottom of the third.
Michelle Gonzales scored next for Plattsburgh, giving the Cardinals a 4-3 lead at the bottom of the fourth. Both teams battled back and forth to the very end, and the Devils looked as if they were going to take the late lead with
Victoria Pauwels singling out to left field. Unfortunately, the Cardinals were able to shut down the late offensive push from Fredonia and ended the game at the top of the seventh.
Game 2
Fredonia managed to get three hits during the second game of the doubleheader, but were unable to find any success on offense as they dropped the match 16-0. Pauwels would finish the game 1-1 and Wulf batting 1-1 as well.
