Potsdam N.Y. -- The Fredonia State softball team picked up two wins against Potsdam. In game one the Devils would come from behind and clinch the game in the seventh inning to win 6-4 and would win by a score of 3-1 in game two.
Game 1
Potsdam would strike first as lead off batter Kiara Lovejoy reached on a error with Chesnie York lacing a triple to left center to go up 1-0 early. Another triple by Potsdam's Rebecca Holmes would drive in a run for the bears to go up 2-0. At the bottom of the second inning, Potsdam's Lexie Cottrill would hit a triple. Anna Brown next up to bat would single up the middle to put the lead at 3-0.
The Devils would respond in the third inning with
Alexis Wulf reaching on a error and would steal second base to be in scoring position. Now back to the top of the order lead off hitter
Allie Wandell would single to center field, driving in Wulf to put the Fredonia State on the scoreboard.
After hitting the next batter and reaching on a error, the bases would be loaded for Fredonia State as
Megan Guidry flew out to left field with Wandell scoring.
At the top of the sixth,
Alyssa Santiago would reach on pitcher error and advance to second with
Erin Cunningham also reaching on a error to put the Devils in scoring position.
Mac Miller would single to right field, allowing two more scores for Fredonia State.
Potsdam manged to tie the at the bottom of the sixth with a Cottrill RBI triple. However, Fredonia State would put the game away with Wandell RBI double and Chelius RBI single to left field to bring the final score 6-4 in favor of the Devils.
Fredonia State was led by Wandell who would go 2-4 with two runs and two RBIs. Esmond for the Devils finish 2-4 with one run and Chelius 1-3 with one RBI and seven strikeouts.
Game 2
The Devils gained control of the game after both sides where held scoreless through the first three innings. With a runner on first,
Victoria Pauwels tripled to right center driving in the first run of the game.
Avery Hill would a hit a double and advance to third on a wild pitch. After a
Erin Cunningham double to right field the Devils would go up 2-0. A
Victoria Pauwels single up the middle would push the Devils lead to 3-0.
Potsdam would score one run in the bottom of the sixth but the Devils would hold on to pick up the 3-1 win.
Pauwels would lead the Devils going 2-2 with two RBIs. Cunningham would hit 2-3 adding one run and one RBI. Pitcher Celauro would finish the game pitching five innings with seven hits, one run, one error and two strikeouts.
The Blue Devils next travel to Plattsburgh for a doubleheader against the Cardinals tomorrow April 22nd with the first game starting at 12:00 P.M.
