HAMBURG, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State baseball team dropped both ends of a twinbill at Hilbert College on Monday. Game 1 ended 4-3, while the nightcap was 16-8 in favor of the Hawks.
Game 1
Nate Lockwood tossed a complete game, but the Blue Devil bats never really got going in the 4-3 loss. Lockwood went six innings, gave up three hits, struck out three, and gave up one earned run. Hilbert used a combination of four pitchers to scatter seven hits in the winning effort.
The Hawks scored all four runs in the bottom of the first. The game started with a walk and hit by pitch. After a wild pitch moved the runners up, two ground outs, an error, and single spotted the Hawks four runs.
The Devils got all three of their runs in the fourth inning.
Jordan Maher walked,
Mario Williams doubled, and
Matt Wojcik walked.
AJ Roach singled in the first run and moved everyone up 90 feet.
Brady Ventura lifted a sacrifice fly to centerfield to score the second run. An RBI groundout by
Tyler Curtis accounted for the final run.
Roach would go 3-3 for Fredonia State, and Williams and
Jake Wentland both hit doubles.
Game 2
The Devils scored two in the first and three in the second -- unfortunately for Fredonia State, Hilbert plated one in the first and six in the second to take a 7-5 lead. The Devils tied it up in the fourth, 7-all.
Hilbert rebounded with three in the fifth and six in the sixth to put the game away.
The Devils ripped 15 hits, led by
Kyle Tedford and Wentland with three hits apiece. Roach added two more hits to finish the day with five safeties.
Garrett Stuckey had four RBI, while Wentland added another double and
Alex Gannon tripled.
The Devils head to Thiel College for a 4 p.m. game on Tuesday.
