Devils drop Florida finales

FLORIDA -- The Fredonia State baseball team dropped its final two games in Florida in a doubleheader loss to Williams College. They fell 7-1 in the opener, and 8-7 in the nightcap.

Game 1
The Devils struck first in the bottom of the first when an Ethan Behnke ground ball scored Brady Ventura who had reached on a base hit.

Williams would put up one run in the second, and three in the third to take a 4-1 lead. They would tack on a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth.

Mario Williams started on the mound for the Devils. He would go three innings and give up two hits and four runs -- none earned -- while striking out a pair. He was plagued by four walks and three errors. Michael Byrns threw the next three innings, giving up three runs -- none earned. Byrns would strike out three and give up four hits.

Nate Zicari tossed the final inning, striking out a pair in a 1-2-3 performance.

Game 2
The Devils led the entire game before giving up six runs in the bottom of the sixth inning of the seven-inning contest. A bases-clearing double off starting pitcher Derek Walters brought home the final three runs of the inning for Williams. Walters went 5 2/3, striking out seven and walking five. Alex Needham got the final out for the Devils.

Tyler Curtis was 4-4 for the Devils, driving in a pair. Behnke and Tucker Schwab each had two hits, with Behnke driving in two. Ventura was 1-2 with a walk and a sacrifice.

The Devils finish the trip 4-6, and are 4-8 overall. They have a week off before traveling to Thiel next Sunday.
