CLERMONT, FLA. -- On its third day in Florida, the Fredonia State softball team dropped an 11-3 game to New England College and a 9-1 contest to Mount Saint Joseph. Freshman
Mack Celauro hit her first career homerun against NEC.
Game 1
After New England College scratched across a run in the first inning, Fredonia State took an early lead in the bottom half of the inning.
Alexis Wulf led off with a base hit.
Madison Esmond then plated Wulf and made it all the way to third on an error by the second baseman.
Emily Chelius then singled home Esmond as the Devils took a 2-1 lead.
An error and infield hit loaded the bases with one out. A force out at home and a pop up to short ended the rally for the Devils.
NEC would keep the pressure on, scoring at least one run in every inning.Â
The Devils added their other run when Celauro homered in the bottom of the fifth. The Devils trailed 8-3 at that point.
Chelius took the loss going 3 2/3 innings, giving up seven runs, three earned. Celauro tossed the final 3 1/3 giving up four runs, three earned.
Game 2
The Devils dropped the second game of the afternoon, 9-1. The Devils scored their only run of the game in the bottom of the fifth.
Allie Wandell led off the inning with a triple.
Hannah Mezzoprete was credited with an infield single, but Wandell remained at third. After a strikeout, Chelius grounded to short and plated Wandell.
Vanessa Galbraith took the loss on the mound, going three innings. Chelius was credited with scoreless inning of relief.
The Devils are off on Wednesday, then take on Carroll and Beloit on Thursday beginning at 2 p.m.
