CLERMONT, FLA -- The Fredonia State softball team came up short on both ends of a doubleheader, falling 5-0 to Carroll, and 11-5 to Beloit.
Game 1
The Devil offense was held to two hits -- one by
Emily Chelius and one by
Alex Brizendine. Chelius pitched an effective game on the mound, going all seven innings, scattering eight hits and giving up three earned runs while striking out six.
Carroll scored two runs in the top of the first and three in the third to account for their five runs.
Game 2
The Devils started off the second game with a bang -- literally.
Allie Wandell blasted her first homerun of the season to stake the team to a 1-0 over Beloit.
However, a three-spot in the bottom of the inning put the Buccaneers in the lead.
Fredonia State retook the lead with three of their own in the top of the third. After a walk to
Alexis Wulf and an hit by pitch to
Megan Guidry,
Mac Miller laid down a sacrifice bunt that turned into an error, scoring Wulf. With one out,
Alyssa Santiago would groundout to plate Guidry. An
Erin Cunningham single scored Miller for a 4-3 Devils' lead.
It was short lived, however, when Beloit put up another three runs in the bottom of the inning, going ahead, 6-4. Three more runs in the fifth, and two in the sixth gave them an 11-4 lead.
Fredonia State tacked on one more score in the top of the seventh. Guidry singled to start the inning, and eventually scored on a single by Santiago.
Wandell and Cunningham both went 2-4, Santiago drove in a pair, and Guidry scored twice.
The Devils wrap up their Spring Trip tomorrow when they take on Carthage and Macalester beginning at 2:00.
