Bowdoin sweep Devils

FLORIDA -- The Fredonia State baseball team dropped both ends of a doubleheader to Bowdoin on Wednesday. They fell 7-1 in the opener, then 20-5 in the second game of the day.

Game 1
Game was was a pitchers' duel until the bottom of the fifth. Bowdoin led 1-0 after scratching a run across in the bottom of the fourth for a 1-0 lead.

The Polar Bears would then plate four in the fifth. A one-out double, hit by pitch, a single, and homerun accounted for the offense and gave Bowdoin a 5-1 lead.

Nate O'Brochta would go the first five on the mound, giving up five runs, four earned while striking out four. Fredonia High School grad Owen Ludwig made his Blue Devil debut, throwing the sixth, giving up a pair of runs.

The Devils pushed across a run in the top of the seventh. Kyle Tedford led off with a base hit and advanced to third on a groundout and wild pitch. Mario Williams grounded out to avoid the shutout. 

Tedford would finish the game with two hits, and Williams would go 1-3 with a walk and stolen base.


Game 2
In the second game, Bowdoin brought the lumber and jumped out to a six-run top of the first, scoring multiple runs in each of the first five innings en route to a 20-5 win. They were aided by six Blue Devil defensive miscues.

The Devils received two-hit games from Chet Palmer and Jake Wentland. 

Derrick Walters took the loss on the mound. Nick Barberio was the most effective hurler, tossing 1 1/3 innings of scoreless ball.


The Devils play SUNY Canton in a nine-inning contest on Thursday. First pitch is slated for 9:30 a.m.
