CLERMONT, FLA. -- The Fredonia State softball team dropped a pair of games on Monday. They fell 3-2 to Bowdoin, and 2-0 to Mount Saint Mary.
Game 1 -- Bowdoin
The Devils led most of the game, before giving up two runs in the bottom of the seventh in a 3-2 loss to Bowdoin.Â
Emily Chelius put in a great effort in the circle, going 6.0 innings, surrendering five hits and one run. She struck out five.
Mack Celauro relieved her in the bottom of the seventh. Bowdoin used a walk, bunt, and two stolen bases to get runners at second and third with one out. The Devils then picked off the runner at second base, but Bowdoin would tie the game on a muffed throw.
An error and a foul out left a runner at first with two outs. Back-to-back singles then brought home the winning run for Bowdoin.Â
Bowdoin's Allie Halliday pitched a one-hitter, but gave up two unearned runs as the Polar Bears committed four errors.
Allie Wandell had the Devils' only hit, driving in
Amanda Eastman, who had reached on an error, in the fifth inning.
Fredonia State's other run came in the second. Back-to-back errors, followed back-to-back walks forced in a run. Eastman was credited with the RBI.
Game 2 -- Mount Saint Mary
Vanessa Galbraith tossed a solid game for the Devils, allowing five hits over seven innings, walking one and striking out one, but the Devil offense never got on track.
Grace McDonald would hold Fredonia State hitless in her seven innings of work. She struck out five and walked one.
Isabella Rizzo was the lone baserunner for the Devils.
The Devils play New England College and Mount Saint Joseph on Tuesday beginning at 9 a.m. before enjoying their first off day on Wednesday.
