FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State men's basketball team took down Buffalo State, 93-82 on Saturday, giving them a season sweep of the Bengals. Top performers the Devils were
Aaron Collins with 21 points, and
AJ Knight with 17 points.
Malik Jemison added seven assists.
Jacob Hougan would shoot 6-6 from the field with 12 points and nine rebounds.
"I thought our guys showed great poise tonight" noted Head Coach
Sean Smiley. "Our alumni and fans provided us with a great environment, and we hope we can carry this momentum into next week."
The sharp-shooting Blue Devils shot an impressive 56 percent from the field and 58 percent from thee-point range, netting eleven long-range buckets. Fredonia State found success early in the first half going inside on offense scoring twenty eight points in the paint, maintaining an eight-point lead going into the half.
The second half would prove to be a seesaw affair as both teams would go shot for shot exchanging scores late into the contest. In the end, Fredonia State would remain aggressive on offense and found a rhythm at the free throw line shooting 14-16 to earn the hard-fought victory.
Buffalo state's Matt Parkinson would lead all scoring with 26 points, and Tyron Smith chipping in 14 points and 8 rebounds.
This victory ties the Battle by the Lake series between Fredonia & Buffalo State at 8 points a peace. The Blue Devils move to 2-19 overall and 2-12 in the SUNYAC. They next play on 2-10-23 at 7:30 p.m. at Plattsburgh.
