GROVE CITY, Pa. -- The Fredonia State women's lacrosse team opened up its 2023 campaign with an exciting 11-9 victory at Grove City.

Erin Woods, and
Audrey Brown each scored twice, and Woods added three assists to give head coach Tori Poffenberger a win in her collegiate coaching debut.
The Devils twice overcame deficits and scored four times in the fourth quarter.
Grove City scored the game's first two goals before
Audrey Brown cracked open the scoring for Fredonia State. The first quarter would end 2-1 in favor of the Wolverines.
Early in the second, Grove City extended its lead to 4-1. The Devils would score four of the next five goals -- from Culver, Woods,
Noelle Mendez, and
Emma Cockerell -- to tie the game at 5-5 at the end of the half.
Audrey Brown scored again to open the third and give the Devils their first lead of the game, 6-5.
Grove City regained the lead with back-to-back scores, taking a 7-5 advantage. The Devils showed some fire on offense rattling off the next four goals, going up 10-7.
Grove City inched closer with two more scores, 10-9, before
Sarah Guariglia closed out the scoring with her first goal of the season.
Sydney Booth made nine saves in goal for the victory.
The Devils are back in action vs. Thiel College on Saturday.
