FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Houghton College women's basketball team kept its record perfect, improving to 10-0 with a 62-40 win at Fredonia State on Thursday. The Devils, now 6-2, received 16 points from freshman
Grace Alexander and eight points from
Sarah Seaman.
Mary Culeton had eight rebounds and five assists.
Houghton came out hot and would lead 13-2 halfway through the first quarter. The Devils struggled with 2-15 shooting from the floor, and trailed by eight, 15-7, at the first break.
Fredonia State picked things up in the second, shooting 50 percent (8-16), but Houghton extended its lead outscoring the Devils 19-18 in the frame. Halftime saw the Highlanders up, 34-25.
The Devils would go 2-10 from the floor in the third, as Houghton outscored them 14-4, building a 48-29 lead.
The Devils bounced back in the fourth, but by then Houghton's lead was too much to overcome. The Devils outscored them 13-12 to produce the final score.
Chrysta Lacrosse led Houghton with 14 points, and Kayla Camacho and Tabitha DeVries had 10 apiece.
The Devils wrapped up play for the semester, and will spend the rest of the week studying for finals.
