HAMBURG, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State volleyball team finished off the Hilbert Hawks, 3-0, on Wednesday. The Devils won 25-23, 25-14, and 25-15.
Erin Callahan led the charge with 11 kills and three blocks.
The Devils continued their strong serving game, led by five aces from
Sasha Zayatz and three from
Gabrielle Sordetto. They had 11 as a team.
Molly Cassidy directed the offense with 32 assists.
Defensively, Sordetto had 19 digs and
Elora Sherman had 15.
The first set was back-and-forth, with the Hawks holding a 19-13 lead. The Devils rattled off the next 10 points to go up 23-19. Four straight points by the Hawks tied things at 23. A service error by Hilbert, and a kill from
Cayla Partsch ended the first set in favor of the Devils.
They would cruise in the next two sets for the victory. The Devils improve to 5-18, while Hilbert falls to 7-16.
Fredonia State finishes its season with matches vs. RIT and Carnegie Mellon on Friday and Saturday.
