CORTLAND, N.Y. -- The Fredomia State hockey team led 1-0 after the first period, but Cortland would score three times in the second to take control of the game and go on to win, 5-2.

The Devils used Antoine St. Onge's first career goal at 10:42 into the first period to open the scoring. David Sudbrink and Dillon Schmidt assisted. Goalie Charles-Anthony Barbeau made nine saves in the period to keep Cortland off the board.

However, the home team regrouped and scored three times in the second. They scored twice inside the first five minutes, then used a power play at the 10:10 mark to take the lead. Colby Seitz scored twice and Sutter Donegan scored once for Cortland.

Early in the third, the Devils cut the lead to 3-2 with a four-on-four opportunity. Johnny Malandruccollo made a nifty pass to Ryan Bailey on a breakaway who beat the Cortland goalie in the five hole at the 4:13 mark.

Three-and-a-half minutes later, the Dragons would use the first of two third-period power plays to go up 4-2. They would get the second power play of the period -- and third of the game -- at the 13:11 mark to cap the scoring. Anthony Bernardo and Johnny Faccini scored for Cortland.

Cortland outshot the Devils, 33-25. Barbeau finished with 28 saves for the Devils, and Cortland's Jack Riedell had 23.

Both teams had four penalties, but the Dragons converted 3-of-3 man-advantage opportunities, while Fredonia State failed to score on all three of its power-play chances.

Cortland improves to 4-0-0 on the season and 2-0-0 in the conference. 

The Devils (0-4-0/0-2-0 SUNYAC) are home against Buffalo State next Friday, then travel to Buff State on Saturday.
