Eagles top Devils

BROCKPORT, N.Y. --  Allie Wandell turned in a double-double for the Fredonia State women's basketball team, but it wasn't enough as the Devils fell 64-49 to the Golden Eagles. Wandell had 10 points and 11 rebounds, to go with two assists and two steals. Mary Culeton had five assists and Laurell Brown chipped in nine points.

The first quarter was back and forth, with four lead changes and two ties. The Devils ended the frame with a one-point lead, 15-14, following a free throw by Amber Louis in the closing seconds. Louis would finish with six points for the game. 
 
Things quickly turned Brockport's way in the second quarter as they rattled off 17 straight points to start the frame. They would outscore the Devils 23-6, and take a 37-21 lead into the locker room.

The Devils would outscore Brockport by a point, 28-27, in the second half. They made a late push to cut the lead to single digits. 

Renee Park capped an 11-4 run with a layup at the 1:59 mark to make it a 56-47 game. Park would finish with eight points, as would teammate Kyla Smith.

The rebounding battle went to Brockport, 56-43. Both teams were 5-23 from long range. The Devils hit 26 percent of their shots from the floor, compared to 33 percent by Brockport. The Eagles also made 15 free throws compared to 12 by the Devils.

Brockport had two players with double-doubles. Juan Brown led all scorers with 19 points while grabbing 12 boards. Zairea Hannah went for 11 and 15. Two other Eagles scored in double digits -- Stephanie Jean-Baptiste had 12 and Anna Felice had 11.

Fredonia State is home next Friday and Saturday when they play host to Potsdam and Plattsburgh.
