FREDONIA, N.Y. -- With the game tied at 57 with 4.4 seconds left to play,
Laurell Brown's three pointer proved to be the game winner as the Fredonia State women's basketball team claimed a 60-57 SUNYAC victory over Plattsburgh. Brown finished the game with seven points. The Devils used banner performances from
Renee Park -- 14 points, six rebounds, four assists -- and
Mary Culeton -- nine points, eight rebounds, four assists -- to secure the win.
Sarah Seaman added 14 points and three assists, and
Allie Wandell added nine points and seven rebounds.
Things looked good for the Devils early on. Plattsburgh would miss its first 14 shots and not have a field goal until the final minute of the first. The Devils led 12-3 at the end of one. They would take a 27-15 lead into the break.
Plattsburgh turned things around in the third quarter, outscoring the Devils 28-9. They would take their first lead of the game, 37-36, on a three by Payton Couture. They ended the third up by seven points, 43-36.
A 9-0 run to open the fourth put the Devils up two points. There would be six more ties and six lead changes before Brown nailed the deciding shot.
Couture led the Cardinals with 15 points, Izzy Wilbur had 14, and Kortney McCarthy added 13.
The Devils travel to Buffalo State next Friday.
