Bengals over Devils, 60-53

BUFFALO, N.Y. -- After matching Buffalo State shot-for-shot in the first half, the Fredonia State women's basketball team was outscored 19-7 in the third quarter, and came up on the short end falling to the Bengals, 60-53, on Friday. Renee Park and Amber Louis provided the bulk of the offense, with Park going for 19 points, and Louis 14. Allie Wandell grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds.

The biggest lead of the first quarter by either team was five by Buffalo State, going up 11-6 with two minutes left. A jumper by Fredonia State's Jaden Sciotti and a three by Louis tied the game at 11 at the end of the frame.

After a couple of lead changes in the early going of the second quarter, a free throw by Wandell made it 18-17, Blue Devils. Park scored the next six points on a three-point play and three pointer to give the Devils what would be their largest lead of the game at seven points, 24-17.

The Devils took a 30-25 lead into the half.

Buffalo State scored the first five points of the third to quickly tie the game. Later in the third, they would go on an 8-1 run to take their biggest lead to that point, 42-35.

Although the Bengals held the lead the rest of the game, the Devils made a late push.

A three by Park with 38 ticks left on the clock made it a five-point game, 58-53. The Bengals hit on both of their free throws on the next possession, and the Devils missed their final two shots to give the final score.

Buffalo State was led by Tashawni Cornfield with 22 points and 11 rebounds.

The Devils held a statistical advantage in rebounds, 47-34, and at the free-throw line, going 10-16 to the Bengals 5-11.

The Bengals improve to 2-15 and 1-9 in the SUNYAC, while the Devils go to 4-12 and 1-10 in the conference.

The Devils travel to Oneonta and New Paltz next weekend.
