FREDONIA, NY -- Michael Ranieri's goal at the 68:37 mark tied the game at 2-all before New Paltz answered with the game-winner less than a minute later and the Devils fell 3-2 to New Paltz on Saturday.

The Devils drew first blood on a goal by Fredrick Butler in the ninth minute, with Kaleb Steward assisting.

New Paltz found its way on the board twice inside the final five minutes of the first half. Colin Brant scored at the 40:32 mark, and Phillip Varner gave the Hawks their first lead, 2-1, at the 42:02 mark.

Ranieri scored in the 69th minute for the Devils, before Joseph Depreta had the final goal for New Paltz in the 70th minute. Neither team would score over the final 20 minutes of play.

The Devils held an 8-6 advantage in shots on goal, with both teams taking nine shots.

Will Richardson made one save and gave up one goal in 42 minutes of play. Kyle Pezzulo gave up two goals and had two saves covering 48 minutes.

"What a roller coaster of emotion today in a pivotal SUNYAC competition," said head coach PJ Gondek. "We started well and got the early goal but let down late in the half. Our second half was a pretty special effort to tie it but we gave it right back to them.  A flurry at the end just wasn't enough. I am proud of how hard we played today. We will keep going for sure and not let up."

The Devils are now 1-5-2 on the season and 0-2-1 in the SUNYAC. New Paltz improves to 5-2-2 and 2-0.

The Devils are back home when they take on SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday evening.
