FREDONIA, N.Y. -- The Fredonia State tennis team fell to Alfred University, 8-1, on Saturday evening. This was the teams second contest of the season, starting off with a record of 0-2.
In singles,
Brianna Gentile took down Jenna Wilson in two sets, to give Fredonia State their only point as a team. In the first set, Gentile won 6-2 and 6-1 in the second set. This was her first victory of her college career.
Caitlin Snyder, in the second spot of the singles, was able to take set one with a 6-0 score. She was unable to repeat her performance in the second set falling to Emily Lyga 0-6. The third set was a close battle, however Snyder was unable to get the victory with a score of 7-10.
Other contributors in the singles matches consisted of;
Violet Hess recorded four points against Alyx Sperling (2-6, 2-6), recorded two points against Anna Gwozdz (2-6, 0-6), and
Lexi Hawley recorded two points against Cara Campanie (1-6, 1-6).
The Devils fell short in all three doubles.
Bella Surma and Snyder were unable to get the victory as they fell 6-8, in a very close battle. Gentile and Hess fell 0-8, while
T'Kaia Parker and Hawley lost 1-8.
The team is back in action tomorrow morning at 11:00 am, away in Cortland.
