SALEM, V.A. ---  The Fredonia Sate softball team traveled to Roanoke College, for the Mountain Mash Tournament. On Friday, the Blue Devils kicked off their season with two back-to-back games against Roanoke and Mary Baldwin. Unfortunately, the Devils were unable to to get a victory on day one of the tournament, falling to 0-2 overall.

For game one, Fredonia State fell to Roanoke with a final score of 9-0.

The Blue Devils struggled early as they allowed all nine runs within the first three innings of the game. The Maroons' bats were hot of the start of the game, as they had a double and a two run homerun within the first inning. In the third inning, Roanoke had back to back RBI singles to close out the game.

Fredonia State was able to settle down and shut the Maroons out for the rest of the game. However, the Devils were unable to cross home plate as they were held to one hit from Vanessa Galbraith.

In game two, the Blue Devils fell to Marry Baldwin with a final score of 5-2.

The Devils hitting struggles continued in game two, as they only had three hits from two different athletes. Marisa Sultana lead the team with two hits on 3 plate appearances and one RBI. Nicole Kumro had the other lone hit, on 3 plate appearances.

Fredonia State's first run came off a bunt from Sultana, where Amaya Lewczyk hustled to home plate.

The Blue Devils found their second run of the game after Kumro scored on a wild pitch.

Fredonia State looks to bounce back tomorrow in a two game set.

Game three of the tournament kicks off at 10:00 am, against Ferrum College.

The final game of the tournament starts at 12:00 pm, as the Blue Devils face off against Roanoke College for a second time.
