SALEM, VIRGINIA. -- The Fredonia State softball team dropped a pair of games on Saturday, falling 4-0 vs. Ferrum, and 9-0 to Roanoke.
Game 1
The Devils collected only a pair of hits vs. Ferrum. Amber Piniweski and
Nicole Kumro each had safeties.Â
The Devils used four different pitchers who scattered 10 hits. The arms were supported by errorless defense.Â
Allie Wandell tossed a scoreless first, allowing one hit. She gave way to
Maria Caviris in the second. She threw a scoreless second before Ferrum was able to touch her up for three runs in the third.
Erin Cunningham came in and allowed a fourth run before quashing the rally. Cunningham would go 2 2/3 innings, and
Vanessa Galbraith threw a scoreless seventh.
Game 2
Against the 5-0 Roanoke Marooons, the Devils manged just one hit -- a Galbraith single in the bottom of the fifth. The Devils gave up four runs in the first, and five in the fifth.Â
The Devils again used the quartet of Wandell, Caviris, Cunningham, and Galbraith in the circle. Wandell absorbed the loss, giving up four runs in one inning of work. Caviris gave up four in 1 1/3 innings, and Cunningham gave up one run in 1 2/3 innings. Galbraith pitched a scoreless fifth in the five-inning contest.
The Devils are back on the field next Saturday when they take on Simpson College and St. Lawrence on March 12.
