The Blue Devils Fall Short of the Victory

PENSACOLA, FL --- The Fredonia State women's lacrosse team traveled to Florida for the start of their spring games. The Blue Devils were unable to grab a win, as they fell to the Sewanee Tigers with a final score of 12-9.

The Blue devils were lead by Sydney Buchko with five goals, Molly McGowan with two goals, Tessa Brady with one goal, and Julie Culver with one as well.

In the starting quarter of play, the Tigers were able to get on the board first. 

Fredonia State was able to answer back quickly, scoring a goal of their own at the 6:11 mark. The Blue Devils goal was scored by Culver, that was unassisted.

Soon after, a yellow card on Allison Polito slowed the Devils momentum and led to a man-up goal for the Tigers. Sewanee was not finished as they found the back of the net one last time before the first quarter came to and end, 3-1.

The Blue Devils were outshot 8 to 7, within the first quarter.

Fredonia State came out of the the first intermission hungry for offensive opportunities. This strong effort was more than enough, as the Devils scored back-to-back goals to start off the second quarter. Both goals came off of free shot attempts from Buchko and McGowan.

Sewanee found their way back into the game, scoring 3 unanswered goals, giving the Tigers a 6-3 lead.

Buchko and McGowan were not done, as they were able to score one goal each before halftime. This cut into the Tigers lead, with a score of 6-5.

The Blue Devils were outshot 10-7, within the second.

Fredonia Sate was able to tie the game up at 6-6, after another goal from Buchko. This goal came only 42 seconds into the quarter, while on the man advantage.

Even with the game-tying goal, the third quarter was the downfall for the Blue Devils. The Tigers were able to score 4 straight unanswered goals

Brady was able to slow down the Tigers offensive onslaught, with a man-up goal coming off of a free shot attempt. However, Sewanee was able to find the back of the net with 1:09 left in the third quarter. This gave the Tigers a 11-7 lead.

The Blue Devils were outshot 12-8, within the third.

At the start of the fourth quarter, the Sewanee Tigers scored their last goal of the game and increased their lead to 12-7.

Before the game came to end, the Devils found the back of the net twice. Both goals came from the stick of Buchko, increasing her goal total to five. This last quarter push was not enough to to get the Devils back into the game, as they fell to a final score of 12-9.

The Blue Devils outshot the Tigers 8-6, within the fourth quarter.
 
Fredonia State fall to 0-3 on the season, while the Tigers increase their record to 8-2.

Fredonia States next contest is in Pensacola, FL against Western New England.
