Devils split with King's

LAKELAND, Florida -- The Fredonia State baseball team split a pair of one-run games with King's College in Lakeland, Florida on Friday. The fell 4-3 in Game 1, and bounced back for a 4-1 victory in the nightcap. The Devils improved to 5-1 on the season, while King's now stands at 4-2.

Game 1
The Devils jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first. After Johnny Genau walked and advanced to third courtesy of a wild pitch and ground out, he would come around to score on a sacrifice fly by Tyler Phillips.

The Devils made it a 2-0 game after Pat Bigham led off the second with a triple and scored on a base hit by Luke Kenyon.

King's used a single, walk, single, and error to put up two runs in the bottom of the second. 

Both teams exchanged runs in the fifth inning. The Devils' Jordan Maher was hit by a pitch and would score on a triple by Genau. A walk, single, sacrifice bunt, and sacrifice fly by King's made it a 3-3 game.

In the seventh, Ryan Hann led off with a double, but Fredonia State could not push across a run.

In the bottom of the seventh, King's used a leadoff walk, stolen base, and base hit to take the walk-off win.

Kenny Ynoa took the loss for the Devils. Nate O'Brochta started for the Devils, going five innings, striking out six and giving up three runs, two earned.

Game 2
Starting pitcher Kevin Mahon turned in a solid pitching performance going 5 1/3 innings, giving up one run while striking out three to pick up his second win of the season. Andrew O'Connor came on with one out and two on in the sixth and worked out of a jam without allowing a run to preserve a 2-1 lead. He followed with a scoreless seventh for the save. 

Tied 1-1, the Devils took the lead in the bottom of the fourth when a Tylor Murphy sacrifice fly scored Bigham.

In the bottom of the sixth, Bigham added a pair of insurance runs with his second homerun of the season to make iot a 4-1 game. Bigham would score three of the Devils' four runs. He finished the day 3-3 with a homerun, triple, and reached base three other times with a pair of walks and a hit by pitch.
